Seashells App Review

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterest

If you read more than a few posts here on Stay at Home Yogi, you will quickly learn that I love three things: saving money, FREE money, and trying out apps! I’m an app-aholic, and especially love apps that help me earn or save money. So when the creators of the new Seashells savings and rewards app contacted me, I was definitely intrigued! This app is brand new – it just launched in late January, and I’m excited to tell you about it!

Seashells sponsored this post – but the opinions are all my own.

What is Seashells?

Seashells works by automatically rounding up purchases you make on credit or debit cards linked to the app. But it’s more than just round up savings. Seashells also rewards you with an automatic 15% savings bonus! They call it “round up rewards.” For example, if you saved $50 through round up savings, Seashells would then reward you with an additional $7.50! Hello – that’s FREE money!

Redeem Rewards

Your Seashells balance cannot be redeemed for cash. Instead, earnings are redeemed at retailers. When you are ready to redeem your Seashells balance there is a huge selection of brands to choose from. Here are just a few:

American Airlines, Babies R Us, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, CVS, Delta, eBay, Hotels.com, Lowe’s, Sephora, Shutterfly, Zappo’s, and more!

You can see the full list of brands on their website.

The list is really extensive compared to most rewards programs and there is something for everyone.

Have a Strategy

It would be wise to use this app strategically – analyze the list of brands and see what would benefit your life the most. Are you planning to do home renovations? Send your rewards to a Lowe’s or Home Depot card. Drowning in diapers and baby wipes like me? Pick Babies R Us!

Here’s a scenario: say you are saving up to buy a new TV from Best Buy. Let Seashells round up all of your regular spending, add in the 15% bonus, and then cash out your Seashells on a Best Buy giftcard! Pretty cool, right?

  1. Are they iPhone only? This is definitely a good idea, rounding up purchases really makes a difference over time. I wish they had Amazon on their list of retailers heh but that is a pretty big list to choose from, especially if there are stores you shop at a lot anyway.

  14. We used to have a bank that would round up the purchases we made on the debit card and deposit the difference in our savings account. LOVED THAT. This is a great option, too! Thanks for linking up at Frugal Friday! 🙂

  18. Guess if they don’t have Amazon the app isn’t available for the Kindle Fire, which is the only “app” device I have. I keep telling myself that I don’t “need” a smartphone, I only “want” one.

    • Smartphones are definitely more in the want than need category usually! But I do use mine for so many things now, including blogging! Seashells might come to Android and Kindle in the future, they are so new and still growing!

  19. That’s really interesting – especially since it gives you bonuses.
